Realistic Blastoise!!!
Woah, it's been a long journey getting this done.
Hope you guys like the final result! This will be the final render of him alone, I still do have something a little special lined up with him and Charizard. There is actually a lot of detail in his shell on his back, so it will be on full display in this mystery, upcoming image.
For my interpretation I tried to stay as close to the source material as possible, so the original character kind of shows through more. In fact I started on the base mesh of Blastoise ripped from X and Y and sculpted on him from there using Zbrush. I also rendered in Zbrush and finished up the final image in Photoshop. I based some of the details of Galapagos tortoises, terrapins and alligator snapping turtles. The arms actually can from an unlikely animal - an actual mammal - the armadillo!
I envision my version of Blastoise living in environments like in the anime, namely- paradise beaches. I imagine it being high on firepower but rather limberingly slow on land. When its in the ocean though, it can receive massive bursts of speed due to propulsion from its cannons, and "rapidly spinning" into it's desired direction. On land it hunts by using it's cannons as a projectile. Under water it can use it's sudden speed to skull bash (hence the big head) as well as use jets of water to break apart schools of fish.
He also is a living submarine, with an unbelievably large swim bladder which it can fill with water to change it's elevation, whilst swimming. This swim bladder is made of highly elastic tissue, so that it can stretch for extra water capacity, when Blastoise needs to have "ammo" for his cannons. In the "photograph" above, he is flushing his cannons as to reduce his weight, because it makes it easier to walk on land.
When Blastoise has a full swim bladder, his speed is greatly reduced. Also, these pokemon can live to be as old as ****. Very few Squirtle and Wartortle live long enough to evolve into a Blastoise in the wild, hence they are left in a relatively vulnerable state to predators, which is why this pokemon is extremely rare in the wild. Even it's pre-evolutions are considered an endangered species due to poaching.
The juvenile form - Squirtle is often used as a starter pokemon because of how adorable it is and its lovable temperament towards young children. Caution must be taken however, as some Squirtle's have rebellious natures, a perfect example of which is the "Squirtle with sunglasses" viral video on YouTube. Squirtle is a very valuable tool in the pokemon trainer initiative run by Pokemon professors. It is the second most popular starter requested by young children who wish to become trainers. The famous Professor Oak in particular admires how eagerly new trainers leave home to adventure with their new friends, whilst leaving their attractive, single mothers behind in Pallet town...
