[Touhou] The Fantasy-Bearing Genjii
Here's my other entry for the Magus Party art collaboration, our old turtle buddy Genjii as Gensokyo itself. I absolutely loved working on the old fella, even when the impending deadline was looming over me like a gun to the head. ...okay, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as a death threat, but still, just know that I enjoyed working on Genjii here.
Anyway, I decided to depict him with somewhat realistic proportions and features, exactly like the last time I drew him. At this point I suppose you guys already know that I'm much more comfortable drawing creatures and animals in such a manner, and Genjii wasn't going to be an exception.
The idea for putting some of Gensokyo's most notable landmarks on his shell came to me some time after Porecomesis suggested that I draw him as the world-bearing turtle. Y'know, the one with four elephants on it. I asked him some more if he could suggest other notable turtles in pop culture/mythology (I talk to him a lot), but I eventually just stuck with the world-bearing turtle idea with a few tweaks here and there.
Someone had [privately] contacted me about why I had drawn two characters for the Magus Party project despite it being clear that each participant was only allowed a single character to work with, and I would like to clear this up for them and for anyone else that might have the same thing on their minds.
Originally, Genjii was not included in the original roster of characters to be drawn, not even after the PC-98 characters were included to make up for the surprisingly large number of applicants. An anonymous Ask was sent to the blog about this, and it was mentioned that he was not included because it seemed unlikely that anyone would pick him up. They did say that he would be included if anyone was interested, so I took the chance to ask if I could draw him right along with Hata no Kokoro. There was a slight complication since I had already picked a character to draw, but I was reassured that if nobody else expressed interest in claiming him, the honor of drawing Genjii would fall to me. And it did. :happybounce:
If possible, I will be re-uploading this sometime soon, and will include characters that I had originally intended to draw along with Genjii but failed to do so because of time-related constraints. They're not exactly too relevant, but I just felt like they needed a little bit of attention. :D (Big Grin)
