The Menace of
Despite the seemingly steady progress of “Operation Desert Storm,” long-range attacks following the start of the operation halt the advance of ground units. Following indiscriminate attacks on a liberated town demoralize the entire army. While the new long-range missile-type Neuroi, dubbed by the multinational united task force, is designated as a high priority target, it was not possible to locate the launcher due to its special radar jamming and invisibility cloaking.
Mid-February, a Liberion Air force Witch conducting high altitude reconnaissance identified a hidden mobile launcher in the mountains of the Eastern Arabian Peninsula. The Witch was shot down but miraculously survived. Based on this new intelligence a special operation to destroy the unit was planned. A multinational task force of special forces units and witches successfully neutralize the launcher, resulting in a sharp reduction of launches to less than 5%. The advance of the multinational task force accelerates. January 18, 1991: The long-range Neuroi is designated . Planning to destroy it begins.
January 20, 1991: The Mediterranean Sea task force succeeds in liberating Jerusalem.
January 24, 1991: The Arabian Sea task force clears the Southern coast and liberates Sana’a. At the same time, the Shaybah oil field is recaptured. However, projectiles cause damage and casualties to Sana’a’s infrastructure and occupation forces.
January 29, 1991: A large formation of Neuroi stage an attack to destroy the Khafji oil fields. The Arabian Sea task force fleet actions repel the attack.
January 31, 1991: The Mediterranean Sea task force liberates Mecca.
February 2, 1991: The Arabian Sea task force allied fleet begins operations to retake Kuwait and the Rumalia oil field regions. Kuwait is liberated and the Rumalia oil fields recaptured by February 6th.
February 11, 1991: Liberion Air Force second lieutenant Teresa Powers identifies the launch platform. Shot down, she is recovered around Mecca
February 13, 1991: An operation to destroy is launched. A collaborative force of special operations units and Witch units succeeds in neutralizing the launcher. Part of the wreckage is recovered for analysis.
February 20, 1991: Witch unit actions manage to exterminate Neuroi nests in the Northern (Arabian) Peninsula.
February 22, 1991: The Burgan and Ghawar oil fields are recaptured.
February 24, 1991: Witch unit actions manage to exterminate Neuroi nests in the Southern (Arabia) Peninsula. “Operation Desert Storm” thus successfully concludes. The capital is successfully surrounded. “Operation Desert Sword” is declared. The two task forces rendezvous.
