This tag is useless. It is originally meant for a "single large comical sweatdrop" like in post #6223189. It is currently used for small sweatdrops (post #7382113) or sweat in general (post #7340959). We have created comedic sweatdrop and small sweatdrop specifically because sweatdrop is plagued with over 100k posts of mistagging. I thought about implicating those tags to sweatdrop but I don't see the value in it, so I made a deprecating BUR instead.
Is it really the taggers who are at fault, or the people who decided to use such a generic name for a specific kind of sweatdrop? It's the small sweatdrops that are most commonly depicted in art, not single large sweatdrops.

+1 to this, I have about 2 pages of results on 200ct for sweatdrop and I've only ever used it for the (I admit, by mistake) smaller single sweatdrops you see on cheeks that are common in anime.
I would much rather we simply change our definition of the tag, because like what was said it's a ridiculously generic name. There's no reason to deprecate it either; unlike bangs or eyebrows visible through hair, sweatdrop is hardly ubiquitous enough to lose searching value.
I agree the name is generic but I don't think changing the definition of the tag via a wiki edit, or aliasing it to something like "single sweatdrop" or "small sweatdrop" would solve the issue because people have used it for posts of sweat in general, which would need manual fixing anyway. This is why I made a deprecation BUR and suggested unambiguous tags like comedic sweatdrop and small sweatdrop to use instead.
Both comedic sweatdrop and small sweatdrop are severely underpopulated even though they existed for a couple months now. The former only has 7 posts, with nonamethanks responsible for tagging 5 of them.
Similar to what Ubaldo the Uploader suggested, I propose we retag every small sweatdrop post to sweatdrop and replace the latter's wiki with the former's wiki. I think the "small" part might become a hangup for some taggers when the point is to distinguish realistic from exaggerated sweatdrops, not the size of the sweatdrops. This change will affect about 100 posts, so it's really a drop in the bucket when you consider the fact we have over 188,000 sweatdrop posts. We should also make an effort to populate the comedic sweatdrop tag so other users know it exists and actually start using it themselves.
I don't think this is as necessary, but it might also be helpful to rename comedic sweatdrop to sweatdrop (symbol). I imagine there might be some users that see someone with realistic sweat in a comical setting and think comedic sweatdrop would apply to it. Explicitly calling it a symbol reduces ambiguity and there is precedence with tags such as star (symbol). This would basically be the BUR in topic #20808, except I believe we should definitely not be calling these kind of sweatdrops emojis.
+1. The small_sweatdrop is generally an everyday physically plausible sweatdrop. The descriptive "small" is honestly a misnomer. As said we also have comedic_sweatdrop for proper differentiation.

The wiki for both sweat and sweatdrop indicates that sweatdrop is already used for comedic/expressive purposes. So IMO, I don't think comedic sweatdrop is a good name if it only means a sweatdrop that is huge. A name change to large sweatdrop sounds more intuitive.
But then we might run into another size problem. How large is large? And do we really need to distinguish sweatdrop by sizes?

comedic_sweatdrop has additional context that makes it a proper trope and not just a simple large sweatdrop, but I concede you generally do not see large sweatdrops on say, playing of sports or sex acts on average. They're generally covered by very_sweaty. So I could see the large_sweatdrop tag being a fine substitute for the comedic sweatdrop tag. Open to discussion on that. All I know is small_sweatdrop which lacks any such context or need to exist is a ridiculous tag.

I meant sweatdrop as in the tag and not just sweat drop. The wiki for sweatdrop already states that it is meant for the visual trope, while also specifies that comedic sweatdrop is for especially large ones though used for the same purpose. The only issue I have with the wiki, aside small sweatdrop, is how they specify "single" while more than one drops can be used for the same comedic effect just fine.
EDIT: a parallel tag would be teardrop. Same as sweatdrop, and the wiki is even better in specifying that there's no need to be strictly one single tear drop. It also specifically states that, quote, For non-comedic pictures with a single teardrop, usesingle tear.
So the current situation is that we have 3 tags for a single concept: the comedic/expressive use of sweat drop(s).
EDIT2: single sweat could be created as a tag for a single physical/normal/serious sweat drop.
Now, comedic teardrop is a tag with its own wiki too (though seems to be just copy pasted from teardrop wiki). So I'm not sure how to deal with this current situation but I would like to see consistency and probably maintaining parallelism between sweat and tear tags.
EDIT: so from discord discussion, it seems that for non-normal/physical sweat drops, they can be further divided into the more "normal"/subtle ones (sweatdrop) and the more exaggerated/tropey one (comedic sweatdrop).
I do agree with with @Blank_User that the name comedic sweatdrop may lead one to think that it also includes any non-normal sweat drops which will overlap with sweatdrop and, possibly, we don't want that. I think the wiki and maybe the name for all these tags need to be edited/changed to clarify things.
sweatdrop has close to 250k posts. I'm not disputing that it's a shit tag, but we need alternatives if we want to deprecate it, and these alternatives need to have thousands of posts in order to be real alternatives.
small sweatdrop has the same problem as sweatdrop: our users will see a character sweating and think "hmm, yes, that is indeed a small sweat drop". Make single sweatdrop or something if you want post #8844052 to be taggable.
