It's the same character.
shikinami_asuka_langley is equivalent to souryuu_asuka_langley rebuild_of_evangelion, and the posts that aren't tagged with rebuild of evangelion as far as I can tell are mistags.

It was brought up in topic #4051 but nothing was done about it.

It'd be better to first remove implication shikinami_asuka_langley -> souryuu_asuka_langley otherwise things will break apart, making the tag stick there even when aliased if the implication still exists, like what happened to edited, because it was aliased without removing the implication to third-party edit, it sticks.

I'm not sure if we can get some traction on this, but I think I'd appreciate it if we could. Not only is she sometimes ambiguous in images, but the defining traits that make her Shikinami and not Soryuu (e.g., eye patch, hair color, plugsuit, etc) are often omitted artistically or adapted. The vast majority of people consider her the "same" though, so it's really just a PITA to find images search wise. This also seems fairly uncontroversial.

I hate to do this because I think it will make searches harder for most people. For many casual users, just because it's possible to search for Souryuu Asuka Langley + Rebuild of Evangelion, it doesn't mean they'll know how to do it. For many people, the idea won't even occur to them. It's also more inconvenient even for people who know how to do this.
