Right, and that's what I mean; if all these pools are are definable tag combinations, aren't they basically just helping people getting around tag limits?

Yes. That's one of the problems with these pools.

As for the fun part, I don't see how it's relevant to the discussion. It doesn't say anything about how well-conceived, necessary or useful the pools are compared to the proposed tag, especially when you can't even point out exactly what it is that makes the pools easier/more fun to browse.
Easily done. Pools are ordered by when a post is added to the pool, typically. This makes it easier to discover older images that someone has recently added to the pool, since tag subscriptions only show the latest posts for a tag. For example, if I tag a yuri image from 4 years ago while doing a tagging trawl through an unrelated tag, no one is going to see that without doing a long tagging trawl themselves.
That said, it's no good reason to keep a pool around that a tag can manage. It's be nice if you could order tag searches by when a tag was added, but I imagine the database load for that wouldn't be worth it.

OTOH, couldn't this line of reasoning (about skirting tag limits) be used, theoretically, to argue against the existence of all pools on Danbooru, not just these? (Except for ones that are clearly part of an artist's collection or are doujinshi pages, of course.)
As the creator of one of those pools (the Kyubey one) I'll argue in favor of their continuation, but only if they aren't allowed to get too far out of hand with just adding any old post that could remotely fit the criteria. For example, in the case of my pool, I can purge posts like post #1164046 or post #1390480, where the only thing Kyubey is doing is the convenient_censoring bit (and in the case of 1164046, it isn't even "really" Kyubey but an obvious censor-sticker), and make it clear the little guy has to actually be doing something in addition to just blocking our view. (For instance, a picture of Kyubey's ears covering Mami's bare breasts wouldn't be allowed, but a picture of Kyubey's ears covering Mami's bare breasts and simultaneously groping them, with Mami visibly embarrassed by it, would be.) I can't speak for the Yukari, Tewi, or Seija pool creators, of course, but I'm willing to police mine a bit more if it makes a difference.

In other words, 6.45...% noise. That's lower than for most other tag combinations.
If you search for a character + trolling, you'll mostly get that character trolling unless you search specifically for characters who are often trolled. In generals, trolls don't troll other trolls.

The argument could be used against quite a few (but no, not literally all) collection pools, yes. That doesn't mean the argument is wrong; the pools are. Just because there are other pools that exist only to avoid tag limits doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Bump. Let's finish these snowclones already. Separating them into separate trolling and prank tags is a bit too much effort though, and trolling is a hard sell for the Kyubey pool in particular, as it seems to mostly consist of Kyubey being annoying just by being there (intent or not).
