Artist tagging help

Posted under General

apologies to post here but it seems relevant. i noticed there seems to be a lot of effort in renaming and disambiguating artists. imho, this is actually good considering artist db changes are not reflected in the user's profile. pure voluntary hard work and no e-peen to show off. some actually simply renames an artist probably because of newer handle name, typos, or misreading of kanji. but what caught my attention is sometimes some taggers don't include the old artist name in the other names field. also, no wiki was made to inform subscribers (if there exist) that the artist was moved to a new tag. add the fact that the amount of posts involved might be even eligible for an alias. leaving without wikis or not including the old name might be excusable if editing a 1 or 2-day old tags, but what if the tag had been around for some time now?

and what is the more desirable practice when renaming an artist, should we reuse the old artist db record or create a new one? personally, i prefer reusing the old one so that we can keep track of its history and changes. it's part of auditing and preserves the previous contributions of other taggers i believe.

My opinion:

I think this should always be done when moving an artist, even if it isn't a large tag.

I think that a mention of the move on the wiki page should always be made, unless the tag has very few posts and is very young.

I feel the same. The old one should always be reused. In addition to keeping track of history, it also prevents links (such as with the artist #63700 syntax) from dying.

I've encountered this twice now, if possible I'd like to know how to fix it myself.
I upload an image, the artist name pops up, I select the tag, but after upload the tag appears in the general tag section and is not nice and red under an artist's heading. Today's example is the artist " oniyan ".

Is there a way I can correct this when I encounter it? Is it an error when the artist tag was created perhaps?

Thank you

The tag's type was changed to general for some reason. It doesn't seem to have been when it was first created.

You can change it by editing the tags and typing artist:oniyan. That will change the tag's type to artist.

Although I thought this feature was supposed to be limited to Gold+ members, so it might be a bug that regular members can do it. If it is fixed in the future, you can post on the forums to ask someone else to fix it instead.

Ah, thank you much. I couldn't find a way to fix it as a member so it's probably working somewhat right. Having lurked for over 4 years (despite having met/know some of the artists who's work regularly appears here) I figured it's high time I started contributing a bit.

Why not Reo? Since it is in kanji and all....

玲凰 isn't a Japanese name. I suspected these kanji were chosen because they sound close to what the artist intends. That or she's actually a Chinese/Korean currently living in Hokkaido.

Her twitter has this name spelled in Korean as 레오 (Leo): https://twitter.com/orou3_leo3.

For these reasons, I think going with the English version of the name on her home page is the safest bet.
