Dealing with other sites that 'steal' material posted here

Is there any way to prevent sites like gelbooru from grabbing every single image that gets posted to the mod queue here? It's burns badly enough having what was thought to be a worthwhile post rejected. But then later finding that same post, complete with the same set of tags and everything - except for credit to the original poster - on gelbooru and the like is rubbing salt into the wounds.

It's not so bad when it's just simple stuff like screenshots. But when things that had taken a lot of time and effort to put together end up being inexplicably rejected here, only to then later show up pretty much everywhere else, I feel like just giving up... I've even seen some -PAY- 'hentai porn' sites that seem to be nothing more than a copy of the image collection here.

So again, I ask - is there -any- way to keep these other sites from leeching every single post that gets uploaded here?

Sorry for the minor(?) rant, but this has been bugging me for quite a while now, and seeing my last couple posts end up on gelbooru after being rejected here was pretty much the last straw.

I understand the frustration, but isn't gelbooru essentially the same as danbooru without the queue? I don't understand how this is bothersome. Some people don't like how danbooru manages things, a lot of people post here, so I can understand why they would do it.

Tagging, at least for me, is never that difficult or time-consuming, and if something I post here gets rejected and ends up there, I don't get upset.

As for the hentai sites, could it be more of a issue that both danbooru and those sites are grabbing images from similar sources?

We're not bothered by it. In fact Gelbooru performs a useful service by giving the idiots somewhere to congregate when we kick them out of here, so they leave us alone.

Besides, none of the art posted here belongs to danbooru, and while you could argue the tagging and organization does, eh, it's not worth fighting over.

Basically it's just not a big deal. Let the mirror sites do what they want, it has no real effect on this site.

A way to keep them from stealing your "tag work" (though I don't recommend it) would be to just upload the image with no tags, and then add the proper tags immediately. Unless they've changed things, they only copy the tags that were added at the time of uploading.

I've never heard of other sites "stealing" material from danbooru as not a single piece of art uploaded here is the admins/users property. It is much more likely that the uploaded art is already "stolen" from somewhere else (artbook scans, doujinshi scans, game cg).
Anyway, sites like gelbooru who mirror danbooru relieve a lot of traffic from us and "getting rid" of them would be in no way advantageous for this site.

Does that even work? I always upload without tags first, and then add tags while looking over the image at the same time to make sure i'm not missing anything.

Yes gelbooru only mirrors the image/tag on first upload unless they changed something recently. There's a ton of old 3db images over there with typoed/unique tags that have been fixed since on 3db but are still wrong on gelbooru.

@CountPacula: Trying to deter other other image boards users from 'stealing' pics from here (de facto we use upload pixiv artists often without their knowledge) is like fighting with piracy - someone sooner or later will find a walk-around for all security measures installed on the board. Internet worked, works and will work in this way, whenever we want it or not.

And for the record, again, in the case of Gelbooru, we want it to.

Safebooru doesn't exist anymore does it? But it used to just be another Danbooru with a rating:s filter. Same exact database (though the versions of Danbooru sometimes were different).

I'm not in any way associated with safebooru.org. I assume they're doing the same thing as Gelbooru, just pulling from the API.

And I don't care about sites mirroring Danbooru's content, with or without my permission, free or paid.

If you want credit for the original upload just create a user on Gelbooru, upload your images there first, then upload them on Danbooru later. This way you will get credit on both sites.

That practice, while not outright banned here, isn't really encouraged either. So I don't recommend we champion this approach.
