Official series abbreviations

I'm not really convinced that we need these aliases. What's the chance someone's gonna search for the short term instead of just the series name?

Furthermore, I really don't want to turn this into yet another topic where builders start submitting hundreds of random aliases that serve exactly zero purpose other than as a checklist to map twitter hashtags to our tags. That's what translated tags are for.

While I have pvoted the BURs, I don't think they're strictly necessary, just something that *may* be nice to have. If alias/bur bloat is a concern, I don't think much is lost. yagakimi still exists though, should this be removed for consistency sake?

It's not like there is no precedent for this, we already have utility shortened name aliases for a bunch of series, such as MahoIku, KonoSuba, NinTama, RoshiDere (recently approved) and some other series that I can't recall at the moment, but I'm sure there's more examples out there.
I initially requested the ones in forum #292710 not just because of their official status, but more so because I see the English fandoms of those series actively refer to them by these names, so I thought they might be of some use.

To be honest the ones I requested sprung to mind specifically because the English fandoms usually refer to the series by these names, so in that sense I agree there's some value there.

One of those was made 7 years ago and another 13 years ago, I would not call them precedents. And I'd call KonoSuba the exception more than the rule because that's one case where the shorthand way is extremely more popular and well known than the full series name, to the point where there's a lot of utility in having it as an alias.

But then we get BURs like the kagepro one, where we're just taking the katakana and turning it to romaji and aliasing that instead. There's no point in that. If a japanese guy's going to search for カゲプロ they can just slap that in the search bar and it'll work. And who's going to type utapri to get a tag with less than 1000 posts like uta no prince-sama, that got exactly 1 post in the last month?

I personally thought Bandori and Bang Dream were two different games for several years, so I would support a utility alias for that one. That might just be a me problem though. I'm ambivalent on the others.

For a good number of years I thought the same. I chose the copyrights in BUR #28496 specifically because their full names are kind of unwieldy, to the point where many Japanese and English sources, forums etc just refer to the by this instead.
