Deletion appeal thread

@Debbie

I undeleted the first, but probably shouldn't have.

They ended up both being untagged lower/same quality duplicates of preexisting posts. I wish the "similar" link wouldn't disappear on deleted posts, otherwise I would have caught it.

I won't re-delete it, but remember that we usually don't accept duplicates unless they are of better quality than the existing versions. Also to fellow janitor/mod/admins, let's try to tag duplicates as such when we see them. I'm not sure how I missed tagging this one as such the first time around.

I'm sorry. I've searched for "Hareko", but I didn't find those posts. I guess there's some misunderstanding because of the tag "hareko_(greenwood)" and some pictures were not tagged at all.

I've added the tag to one of them.

But where's the other picture? I didn't find another version of it. And its quality is better than the recovered one. Thanks a lot.

I can't find another version of it with search or similar, so I'll undelete it... Just parent/child it if there is one that's better quality, I guess. I don't think that should count for Debbie's deletion count anyway, since I can't even find it.

Odd, I can't find it anymore either, and I swear I set it as the parent myself. Strange, either I did something weird a while ago or something got double-deleted or something. Either way, if it's not a duplicate it should stay, sorry about that.

You've been here long enough to know that's a bad argument. We approve what we think warrants being approved. There is no mandate to match what is already here, especially if it dates from a more lenient era.

This doesn't change the fact that you could either delete things that you call crap or unapprove them yourselves. It's left there so that sends the message that pics like that are accepted. Some of the pictures weren't even "from a lenient time" some of the pics are from quite recently and I'm 100% sure that if the same thing is uploaded in the future it'd still be let in.

The implicit meaning of letting those pictures remain there is that they're accepted. The ones I uploaded are similar to or better duplicates than the ones left there. The posts I copied had good scores and fav counts. So here I see my posts deleted while other posts of similar content get upvoted and favorites. What does that tell me? Not "we let them through because they're already here" but "We didn't let these ones through because you uploaded it, if it was someone different we would be lenient"

Many of these are borderline to both sides such that they aren't worth approving, but they aren't worth flagging either. There can't be a hard fast approve/delete line. Even less so one that is the same for all the janitors/mods/admins.

It isn't practical or helpful for us to go back though the half million posts and flag everything we find below a minimal threshold either. It simply isn't possible.

Additionally, there would be certain conflict with such a process if we did try it, since some things I'd never approve in a million years are approved by other mods and possibly vice versa. Flagging things other mods approve of would only cause unnecessary drama.

Old pics are going to persist that have never went through the mod queue. Unless someone sees them, finds them egregiously out of place, flags them, and all the mods agree, they will remain here.

It's possible some of the pics you are talking about were uploaded by contributors and bypassed the mod queue that way. Contributors can be laxer than the mods sometimes, but again unless it's extremely bad, we don't flag things.

It's also possible that they were approved by a mod at some point, we all have different tastes and thresholds. In that case, you can wait until that mod sees your request here. Just because one mod approves something doesn't require us the rest of us to agree with their picks, and certainly doesn't require us to approve anything on their behalf.

EDIT: Also looking at your appeals again, only one of them had any children, and that one has since been undeleted. Two of them are deleted because someone had previously flagged them and nobody re-approved them.

I'm not a mod or janitor so if I see one picture approved and an identical one ignored it would be like I'm singled out. If we can't trust the voting system, can't build on other approved posts ,take past pictures into account or know the mood and taste of any given mod/Jan at any given time how are we supposed to post anything without it being unapproved/deleted for a random reason?

The one with the parent has been restored but this post #542534 is still there. I'll take your advice into consideration and plan my future posts accordingly.
