Yaoi and Fujoshi posts.

I have been gardening a yaoi_(object) tag since it's something I see a lot and figured would be a good companion tag to pornography and this had led me to the question of should we actually use yaoi on posts like this?

A not insignificant of the tag is women masturbating or in sexual situations post #341780 or post #932133 for instance. There are even posts of women engaged in heterosexual sex with it post #3497059.

All of these feel like things someone in the yaoi tag wouldn't want to see, but at the same time with how contentious yaoi can be a user might not want to see any reference to it no matter how small. post #1713853 was tagged with yaoi but you can barely tell that's what she's reading.

What do we think? Should fujo posts and background elements be enough to warrant the tag?

I agree with your conclusion. But I don't think it should imply yaoi. I would support it implying pornography though.

Ever since I joined the site I've been puzzled by these posts being tagged with these tags (the highest rated bara post was a fujo post for years...). So I'm very happy someone else cared enough to look into this to fix it.

The yaoi 1girl solo search still pulled up an image like post #3582335. Even if it isn't the focus, still depicts two men having sex.

Yeah this leads back into the question I asked in OP. I'm hoping to reach a consensus on this because all of this is inconsistently tagged right now.
post #3497059 has a dick on another man's face in frame but definitely isn't what someone looking for yaoi wants. post #4859587 has clear gay porn but doesn't have the tag.

The concern seems unnecessary. The tag should be for all depictions of yaoi, and for those who wish for it to be the main focus there is always searches like yaoi male_focus which covers over 97% of all yaoi posts. Even then, the few that are yaoi -male_focus are still mostly just male focus but not tagged. The non-male focus ones still being in the minority of the minority posts. At those levels it feels likes complaining about the fact that the US legally allows up to 40 insect fragments per teaspoon of black pepper in food.

Any high score search for these tags will get you these posts. It’s inappropriate and unintuitive. Not to mention potentially having to use your whole 2-tag search as a member to avoid them.

There’s a reason why we have multiple (object) tags. They’re not the focus of the post so they get their own tag. These posts should just get the pornography tag. If people can’t handle all kinds of pornography then make more specific subsets of it like what’s being suggested here.

Having the time to quickly browse the yaoi (object) tag now, the appropriate approach honestly appears to be neither of the proposed BURs and that they should be tagged dependent on what is in the image.

Images where the yaoi (object) is identifiable through a gay interaction of two male characters should be tagged both yaoi and yaoi (object), regardless of how much it is or isn't the focus of the image. This would be the same approach tagging characters featured on character merch or as character dolls in an image are also tagged regardless of how much they're the focus or not. The presence of the interaction is what the tag should be for, not only if it's the focus. Again, there are two tag searches that can easily restrict the results to where it is the focus. Ex: post #3486522, post #3234857, post #3582335.

Images where yaoi (object) is identifiable by symbol or other non-interactions between two male characters should just be tagged only yaoi (object). Ex: post #2630232, post #2387922.

Lastly images that have neither shouldn't be tagged yaoi (object), but just manga (object). Ex: post #4997440, post #2491771.

I don't think it's a good idea to add tags to posts based on the sex acts being undertaken in pornography appearing in these posts. For example, should post #6889320 and post #6711750 be tagged as hetero, sex, doggystyle, and completely nude? I think it's a bad precedent that would end up diluting search terms. I agree with what Admiral Pectoral said, if people are don't want to see male/male sexual activity even in incidental situations, they should blacklist the yaoi_(object) tag.

If you can't tag something like post #3582335 as yaoi despite how blatant it is, then the tagging system is broken. You might as well rename the yaoi tag yaoi focus then, because otherwise it's just failing to be used for obvious yaoi depictions which is absurd.

So do you also think that post #6711750 be tagged as hetero, sex, etc.? It's just as "blatant." I understand where you're coming from, but I'm concerned it would end up polluting any sex-related search terms with posts that aren't relevant to people's search terms.

Good point this is probably a broader question about how we tag masturbation and pornography posts in general. I similarly don't think tagging nude or sex acts that appear on the cover a book are helpful because that's not what someone looking for those posts is expecting to find, but I also think it's it's blatant like post #3582335 post #392955 or post #589841 it makes sense that it's potentially something people wouldn't want to see. I don't mind gardening a sister yuri or hetero tag for in-universe porn, more filtering options are usually good right?

I think we should definitely make use of a yaoi_(object) tag so that people who don't want to see it can blacklist it. I don't think there's much of a demand for yuri_(object) or whatever the heterosexual pornography equivalent would be, but I agree that we might as well have them for consistency's sake.

Yes that is kind of the point of the thread, though as gfz mentioned it's also kind of a question of how we treat in-universe porn.

Fujoshi shouldn't be exclusive with yaoi there are plenty of images like post #4242303 where there is a women in the post but it's still clearly yaoi with two boys. We're talking about it hetero, yuri, and yaoi should be applied to things like computer screens and doujinshi in-frame.
