Guide on creating negative records

Contributor user:Herrmobel has been uploading like crazy, but is generally putting only char:, artist:, and copy: tags. Both Mr GT and myself have politely requested that he tag his posts, but he's given no indication of having acknowledged and continues, as far as I can see, as recently as seven minutes ago. The quality of his uploads is generally good, but he just doesn't exercise beyond the minimum required in the rules in tagging.

As long as he puts the copyright tag, name and artist where applicable he shouldn't get a neg record for it:

Anyway, once the breakdown in communication has been resolved, the negative record can easily be removed.

Rarely ever happens. Once a neg record has been given it stays even though the problem has been addressed.

That depends on the giver of the record and how they intended on dealing with it. If they planned on checking on our progress in a week and revoking the record if you reformed, there is no reason they couldn't.

If on the other hand they planned on giving you a record as a warning for later, they probably wouldn't.

I've never revoked a record myself, but I hardly ever give any either. Provided someone was honest enough to check up on people this method could still work.

That being said, I still don't think negging people for marginal tagging is a good idea, even if it is a significant issue.

Did anyone actually read my post?

I would give a negative record in that case because the person failed to respond to messages asking him to stop certain behavior. I wouldn't need to "check back" to find out if he had finally gotten around to discussing the issue with me, because unlike him, I actually read my dmail.

FWIW, I agreed with you, just didn't really post since I didn't have anything extra to add. I also hesitate to add negs for minimal tagging because I don't want to set a potentially dangerous precedent, but just cutting off comms altogether does seem like kind of a dick move, though it would require a bit looking into to ascertain the situation first.

@ Magus: That's an opinion, and I'm not even going to bother arguing about it on a site where half the mods don't want adult material posted in the first place and "all photoshops are automatically bad". I just won't post it anymore, then everyone can be happy.

I like how danbooru is OCD on post quality (contrary to gelbooru which makes my eyes bleed) but on the other hand it's still not keeping bad posts out and causes conflict of opinions.

I am not the only one doing that "upload first/tag later" or "minimum tag/tag more later" thing. I have lost count of the times I uploaded, tagged, then found out it was already uploaded.

Doesn't the Firefox danbooru image uploader extension already have a feature that scans for duplicates before uploading? Sounds like something you'd find useful :)

I personally put all potential uploads through iqdb first to make sure I'm not uploading duplicates.

I don't really have much to say about negative records but I agree they should be used as a 'persuasive' educational tool.

Danbooruup? It'll stop the upload and tell you it was a dupe but only after you've tagged it and submitted.

This is not what I mean.
I mean that I found a couple of pics already uploaded seconds ago and untagged. Therefore, I find some of the fingerpointing in my direction regarding this kind of behavior quite laughable.

We've already covered that the "Other people do it so its okay for me to do it" excuse is not valid. Obviously you know better.

And with the sheer volume of your uploads, I (and it seems a few other people) think you should be responsible and tag them. I think this is especially true because you upload so much.

Despite it not being "against the rules," it would be quite nice if we at least had SOME general tags, especially since a lot of posts come from a few select people.

Either way, since you *are* in this thread now and *are* now publicly known to be aware of this request, I would like if you could add a few general tags as appropriate. It doesn't even need to be every post, but if there's something obvious and significant in the image, just go ahead and tag it.

And where the hell did I say it?

In general, I did not go beyond the three general tags, "copyright", "author" and "character" & fetish generally up to my interests.

Duly noted.

While we're on the subject of tagging correctly and adequately, I'd like to chime in with a note about setting the correct tag type when creating new tags -- especially for artist tags -- since I'd spotted and fixed a few of these recently.

A quick review lesson from the tagging cheatsheet:

copyright:mirai_nikki
character:gasai_yuno
artist:wakatsuki_sana

It's also good practice to create an artist entry for new artists so that the "find artist" function on the upload page can identify the artist correctly.
