I reaaaally doubt any admin is seriously viewing the builder status as a permanent substitute for gold purchases, the reason why it's mentionned as an option is precisely because it's an alternative for the time being.
But hosting a site the size of danbooru isn't free, so it's safe to assume "slacking" isn't the reason for the issue still being there to this day

Now for the number of hours spent "grinding", yeah, the time spent contributing is certainly not small business, i am in fact lucky to have the ability to just switch to danbooru tabs several times through the day, but tbh, most of the time i've spent on the site so far was casual browing, most of my contributions were done with me just actually using the site and then sprinkling some edits because i noticed i could and i might as well. (my familiarity with the site from prior years of lurking must've helped me save time, but still)
But to make things short, my point is, if i deduct the time spent browsing the site from the time spent contributing, it's not too bad; especially given i must've made an amount of mistakes in it; One can still get promoted with less contributions.

However I do admire the rigid stance of the management in not compromising, and in avoiding unnecessary risk to the site. So it all goes two ways.

You mean codes to upgrade your account to gold? Those currently aren’t available. At all. If you’re offered upgrade codes for sale anywhere besides the official upgrade page (which currently doesn’t work), you’re getting scammed. Just FYI.

People want more capabilities on here and will resort to ToS violation because the other option is garbage for being vague and uncertain and requiring a lot more effort. 1. Contact any user who has gold or platinum by dm and ask to use a email danbooru spies.
2. When you buy the account make sure it's not sharing which dabooru can see and Detect.
3. When own the account change username password and email.
4. Enjoy.
