Unusual surge of mass post-downvoting

This site has become a real toxic shit show as of late, then again this site has pretty much ALWAYS been a toxic shitshow.

The moderators are toxic, the admins are toxic, the community overall is toxic, The artwork that is shown here is literally the only real saving grace this cesspit of a site.

Elaborate?

My guess is some of his comments being downvoted, since he's airing his grievances in this thread specifically.

Me too, but since he mentioned moderators and admins I assumed it went deeper than that.

This has been happening to me lately for the last few months, so it's funny to see other people reporting the same problem on here.

There's someone who, for the past few months, has somehow had enough free time to downvote almost every single thing I post. Not comments, but actual posts. The user is hidden, which is fair, but part of me wonders if it may be a bot because it's almost inhuman how quickly they can downvote so many of the things I post in such a short time frame.

I was able to ignore it for a while, but I feel it's unfair to the artist who drew the art in the first place. If it's a meaningless metric, what's the point in it's existence? I don't know if this is a bug, a bot, or just someone who needs something to do, but it's been getting worse as the months pass and is bizarre every single time it happens.

I believe that there are several users who religiously vote on all images. Not targeted against a user or anything, but just... voting on everything they see on the front page.

Further, I remember hearing about people using downvote:their user ID in their blacklist as a way to basically curate the site for their own view.

So, basically, unless you're suddenly getting 5+ downvotes on everything you upload or there'a suddenly a -1 on everything you ever have uploaded, it's very unlikely there's any targeting being done. People are more aware of voting now and we've never been against downvoting things you don't like.

It's fake internet points, after all.

So you don't think it's a bot? The user would've had to go back by hours and had enough time to very quickly downvote everything in the same time frame.

Also, how do we put "downvote:user" in our blacklist when the user is hidden?

It's no bot.
It's just a few individuals who get a kick out of making uploading feel as miserabel as possible (i.e. to try demotivate other users to upload. Nothing we can do about it but just counter them with an upvote on our own. It's a hassle, but it's honest work to counter that garbage mindset.
By that I mean it should live and let live. No need to interfere other user's experience with your negativity (just use a blacklist you add these images to and refrain from the downvote, and reserve it for actual bad images.

But that's describing a perfect world we don't have and won't have.

Updated

One of the people in question is an approver, and they downvote or upvote on every post they see while they browse the site. I know of another user that downvotes a lot so they can exclude posts they don't like with a -downvote:username search.
There's no need to attribute malice to it. Users don't have to justify their votes.

No, they put their own userid downvotes in the blacklist so that when they downvote something it shunts it to the shadow realm blacklist. Though I don't care enough to check if this works, it's just something I heard people were trying to do.

But, again:
1) It's just fake internet points.
2) It's actually really easy to mass down/upvote things. You can use tagscript to do so. On default settings, you could probably downvote the entire front page in like five seconds.
Edit: Tested it. Takes me about 8 seconds to click about 40 images from thumbnails. Slow that down a bit to give each image a look-see and, yeah it ain't hard to imagine someone downvote a couple dozen pages while idly watching youtube on a second monitor.

Isn't that more an issue of you, or anyone, caring more about a useless number than it deserves? Even if someone was actively downvoting posts with the intent of hurting the uploader, that only works because you let it, taking it as a personal attack.

You say "live and let live" but then suggest that no one should ever downvote anything because it's mean, as well as assuming that malice is the only reason someone could downvote something, rather than the countless other reasons they might have for it, even though it doesn't affect anything and you could just ignore it instead of using it as some sort of validation.

I will say that I don't think there's any malice behind it. As mentioned prior, it's a fake internet point score that doesn't affect me personally. I was moreso annoyed on the artist's behalf, if I randomly stumbled across a website reposting my art and saw there were downvotes I'd probably be a little annoyed by it as well.

I always just assumed it was someone who didn't know how to blacklist the male focus tag, a bot, or someone with a lot of spare time as I mentioned prior, at least in my case.

But yeah, I do find it a little funny that it's useless but is a feature still existing nonetheless.

Is there a way to hide downvotes on here?
