Back in 2009, topic #6514 was made to address the issue of tagging characters that are hardly in focus or important for a given post, diluting search results for said character. evazion would go on to propose the *_(cameo) format, analogous to the equivalent format for cosplay tags (with cameo being paired with it inconsistently). Since then however, especially as folks tried to grapple to what extent the format should parallel cosplay in tagging practices, by 2010, in topic #3561 Hillside Moose would proclaim how we had stopped using those tags, in 2011, back in the original topic a necrobump would turn against the format (and prompt the further proliferation of cameo), and by 2012 elsewhere, a general belief that it was decided that these sorts of tags would be "nuked" (read: updated to be their chartags instead), as in forum #80331 and forum #80668. In 2020, topic #15982 would bring forth a brief revival of the format, but the creation of character watermark there would render that need moot.
So, we need to ask - do we really need *_(cameo) when we've collectively decided to just use their chartags?
