This new ex-meiling tag is great and all, but posts with only one character in them should not have two chartags, if possible. It defeats the purpose of the chartags metatag. Therefore, instead of ex-rumia, ex-keine, and ex-meiling, I propose we just use an ex-mode tag along with their regular chartag. No loss of information occurs, and the chartag count for these images becomes accurate.
While I agree with the 1 chartag:1 character sentiments, making one tag into two never works. post #352036 for instance would show up under "rumia ex-mode."
Meiling and rumia may have ultra-low counts but keine is over 1100 posts. Overlap between (ex-)Rumia + (ex-)keine is 80 posts and as time goes on this will just grow.
Without relational tags this is just purging too much information with very little gain.
With that in mind, should the biribiri tag be changed back to a general tag, then? I remember it was discussed in forum #28902 but it was kept as a character tag. These ex-* tags seem like the same case as the biribiri tag, or at least to me.

Hmmm. There were still a few lying around when I checked, wouldn't know if they're being used officially or not.
I'll revise my point, then. It's consistent with the _(cosplay) tags. Also, I would support changing biribiri back to a general tag for the same reasons stated above.
We never really *started* using them, to be honest. There are a few *_(cameo) tags lying around, however. I actually saw someone add them to a post yesterday.
I hadn't considered the overlap. But to be honest, I still think it should be done. Ex-mode is a property of the character in the image, just like red_hair. As you say though, it would result in lost information.
In the alternative, I agree that the ex-* tags should be made general.
