Suggestion discussion: Upload limit reset daily instead

Posted under General

Though I'm new to uploading, I can't help but think that potentially having to wait up to 3 days for the upload limit to reset feels a bit long. Obviously, that's only if posts aren't approved, but I feel the difference of 30 images across 3 days wouldn't be much of a difference in terms of negatives, while it would help new uploaders to understand what approvers are looking for more easily. I forget where exactly I read it, but somewhere even stated that it's safe to assume anything in the mod queue has already been seen by at least 1 approver, so, even after just 1 day, the post would have already been judged quite a few times. I think the 15 per day system would help stop new people flooding uploads with against-the-rules or low-quality posts (as approvers will likely pick those off quickly) while allowing for more "meh" posts to wait for possible approval. It's just a weird side effect of requiring 3 days for multiple approvers to be able to judge posts, leading to a stagnation of learning what will be approved. I did see that, until somewhat recently, the queue started at 50, but it's just food for thought.

Posts get approved faster if they are not Touhou. Because the source material is drawn so poorly, the standards for good artwork of its kind are extremely high. (It's also quite old; the overall quality standard has increased, and art styles have evolved.) But of the site's 700,000 users, there are only 44 approvers, not all of which are active every 3 days. But of those, it only takes one approver that actually likes Touhou to get your post approved. It really varies, because it's all done manually and subjectively by humans. There are 440 posts (and counting) in the approval queue right now; that's quite a lot to go through. The post approval rate is 94–96%, so it's only usually only a matter of time.

The previous limit of 50 depended on your account age and post deletion ratio; you started at 10. You can still progressively unlock an upload limit of 40 by getting more posts approved, and eventually, completely unrestricted uploads; it's like a game with a progression system. If you upload 15 artworks every day, it will take two months to hit that 40 upload limit. But with this system, you can hit that limit much sooner as you can upload theoretically unlimited artworks a day if your submissions are approved quickly—the best art is almost objectively good; many posts are approved within minutes or even seconds. With how time-consuming it can be to find high-quality artwork and tag it comprehensively, it's tough for most users to upload 5–13 quality artworks per day (depending on upload limit) unless they're constantly finding new and amazing artists or uploading multi-page doujinshi.

If you haven't already, make a document with all the artwork you plan to upload later with all the tags you plan to add to them. That way, you can still have fun tagging and can just submit the artwork when the time comes.
Using the API, you can even easily make some software to queue up posts to be submitted automatically as soon as you have a free upload slot.

What??? The quality of ZUN's art has nothing whatsoever to do with the approval rates for Touhou fanart. 125 Touhou posts have been uploaded today, 101 of which have already been approved.

A lot of those were auto-approved to be fair

If anything, Touhou being so popular means an approver is more likely to like the post.

The majority of uploads on this site are from unrestricted uploaders to begin with, 1739 total approved posts today with only 390 not auto-approved.

So a majority yes (~70%), but not an overwhelming one.

Yeah, just replying in reference to the 101/125

I'd probably call it overwhelming since it's double the amount in raw number but that's just subjective semantics
