create alias self_shot -> selfie
The modern term is "selfie", nobody calls it self shot.

We use the tag for both actual selfies and the act of taking a selfie, but in both cases "self_shot" is just weird to use.
The alias was made in topic #10090, 7 years ago. The internet and word usage has changed a lot since then.

Just one note, when a person makes absolute statements like that they're usually shooting themselves in the foot. Saying it's the "dominate" term is fine, saying "nobody calls it that" is foolish.

Well, obviously when I said "nobody" I did not mean it literally, but in the sense that the amount of people calling it "selfie" is so big that the other term is only shown as a secondary definition unless you're really digging through Google, which is what really matters for us.
Examples:
A technicality, but "self shot" or "self-shot" would be more descriptive of the act of producing the image (a self-shot photo or self-shot video). "Selfie" on the other hand would be more of the end-product produced by doing a self-shot ("taking a selfie"). So from an image perspective it would be kind of the division between the image (post #4257965) and the act (post #4308102).

You could always have separate selfie and taking_selfie tags, but you can be 99.99% sure that people will just misuse selfie post for taking_selfie shots
