Tag Discussion: "fleshlight"

Of the standing "fleshlight"-tagged pics, only 1.5 have something that markedly looks like one. "pocket_pussy" is in less use, but seems like what they actually are, at least if Futachu's translator isn't lying at me (I could prolly look it up somewhere...). Stemming from that translation, "onahole" is the word chosen for use therein.

So, how should these self-pleasure devices be handled? I figure we can all agree that "fleshlight" isn't quite right for 'em, but should there be aliases and implications set in motion, just an edit sweep, or some c-c-c-combo?

Why not settle for fake_vagina, or artificial_vagina, or something like that?

Well, "fleshlight" and "pocket_pussy" are established terms, and thus more likely to be searched for, or at least recognized (right off) for what they are. And you damn well know Japan's got at least one name for every depravity, so settling for their term (a la "paizuri") might be simplest for the [main] tag.

Fleshlight is the term I recognize.

オナホール is used in Japanese, I think, yes.

My issue with fleshlight is that it'd be like tagging all tissues "kleenex" or all dark colored soda as "pepsi" or "coca_cola". I prefer brand-neutral tags when possible.

Whatever "オナホール" romanizes to, I suggest aliasing "pocket_pussy" to it, then implicating "fleshlight" to "[insert romanization here]" as a sort of subset (since, as said, there is at least one that is an actual Fleshlight).

Just as a matter of curiosity, but why "-hole" instead of whatever their word for that sort of "hole" is? And what's "ona" mean?

オナ is short for オナニー, which is the most common word for masturbation in Japanese. It's derived from the German word "Onanie", which is cognate with English "Onanism", a Biblical reference. The word for "hole" in Japanese is 穴 (ana), and at the very least "onaana" sounds dumb :P That could be a reason to use "hole" instead, but I guess it's fruitless to ask why Japan borrows some words and not others.

O_o Jeebus, and I thought English was derivative (is that the word?). Well, for now, I'll slap "onahole" on the "fleshlight" and "pocket_pussy" pics (if someone hasn't beat me to it).

I vote for pocket_pussy. There's no reason to use the Japanese word when there's an existing English term for this.

Same. I just came across the 'onahole,' 'fleshlight' and 'pocket pussy' tags. Came by to start a discussion, and happy to see it already started.

'Onahole' seems to be the best idea, considering the theme of Danbooru.

I'm against 'onahole'. It's stupid JP pseudo-English again, and it's not at all familiar for speakers of the real variety of English. Pocket_pussy is easy to remember and fairly obvious, that plus a couple of aliases is fine.

I'd actually prefer artifical_vagina, but whatever.

I like that better too. I mean, it's not like the concept isn't creepy to begin with, but actually walking around with one in your pocket? Super creepy!
