The point of source is to link back to the artist's page. If the source is not public then a. there is no source or b. the artist's site
Also, md5 mismatch tag is not hurting anyone. Artists reupload all the time due to pixiv demand for bigger censor bars.
If I scanned some crap and then linked back to my personal web page or something, that would not be right. That's basically what someone is doing when they link to gelbooru.
A source is not required, and gelbooru is not really a source (it's unathorized reposts).
