View it from the perspective of a user. From most desirable to least, what do I want the source to point back to?
- The original source, most likely Patreon in this case, but maybe for whatever reason it's inconvenient to link back to it. At a minimum someone should note it in a comment.
- I would argue the Pixiv source is the second most useful, because it's a direct link to the artist and you can explore the rest of their catalog from there. It's true it isn't the same image, but...
- Gelbooru just adds a layer of indirection. But it's still possible to find the artist's other URLs, and in some ways this may even be advantageous in the case that they might just end up deleting their Pixiv account.
In the end, I don't think there's a clear good solution. I think as long as all the information is available somewhere it's fine. If you click on the Pixiv link and see that it's different, you can investigate and find the Gelbooru link. If you click on the Gelbooru link and think it's a dead end, you can investigate and find the PIxiv link.
