ATTN: DANBOORU IS NOT A PORN SITE

Posted under General

The mission of this site is to collect high-quality anime-style images, especially those made by independent Japanese artists. We accept both clean and explicit content, but that doesn't mean Danbooru is a porn site. Please act accordingly.

(albert, please correct me if anything has changed in that regard.)

Yup. We've been stating that for a long time now. If you come by already-posted sets that are without merit, feel free to run them through me, I already cut down the ones I find to 1-2 essential pics.

It's been policy for awhile but unfortunately tagging policy is only really known by people who read the forums, and I think (new) people often see CG sets as a good way to get a lot of posts uploaded in a short time with minimal effort. Quite a lot of these die in the mod queue.

At any rate, this is correct, Danbooru is *not* "a porn site". It's a site that has porn and many other things.

Explicit images actually make up a minority of Danbooru's content, something that people find hard to believe when I first tell them.

I wish the general userbase would share the tastes of the moderation, so that awful images like post #385072 wouldn't get such an absurdly high score, which in turn motivates others to post like images.

There is nothing wrong with that particular picture, In fact it's much tamer than most of the images that get posted here. Not everyone is a fan of cute or loli type pictures that come to this board on a regular basis.

Honestly, if that's the worst we had to deal with in terms of porn, I'd have no complaints. The style isn't really to my taste, and I would never favorite it nor vote it up, but I'm sure you could have found ten thousand higher scoring images of far lower quality.

I understand and agree with your broader sentiment, but I'm not sure that image was a good example.

post #208854 is a better example. It doesn't even have the excuse of being posted 2 years ago, like a lot of the other really bad pics do.

I think it'd be nice if danbooru defaulted to a work-safe mode and users had to sign up and explicitly opt in to see the porn. The presence of all the hentai on the main index and in the popular pages gives the impression that danbooru is mainly a hentai site, even if it's not.

I don't want to derail a sticky too much though, so this is probably a topic for another thread.

I'd like to comment that this really shouldn't be the place for posting full doujins either, though I'm guilty of doing it myself. The pool system, which is the only decent method for reading doujins, is terribly under-utilized, and unless the quality is such that each image can stand alone as something worth posting, we'd be better off not cluttering the site up with mediocre 20 page doujins. You'd be better off somewhere like Fakku. I could be alone on this though.

Completely agreed. I still think that doing this would also be able to get Danbooru simpler donation means.

Absolutely.

I'd go so far as to say that we should ACTIVELY discourage the posting of full doujin.

The occasional spread, if its REALLY good, and the covers, generally, but not the entire doujin. Thats not what this site is for.

The only time I've ever thought it's worthwhile uploading an entire doujin (or done it myself) is when it's something that is both relatively short and consistently high quality, as in you could look at almost any page and have that single image be judged a worthwhile upload. Colour stuff, stuff with good art or content, etc.

We totally don't need things like average 40 page doujins that only have about 5-10 good pages of content in them.

This is getting off-topic, and I'd like it moved to a forum #13790, but note that colourness is not in any way a requirement. I personally tend to prefer monochrome sketches to "finished" versions, so things like character sketches, WIPs, etc. are all perfectly fine uploads, even more so than the actual contents in many cases. But you're right in that things whose only raison d'entre is that they're a page in some doujin comic should be avoided.

This is the BEST IDEA EVER. In light of user:evazion rating:e, it's also interesting that you were the one to suggest it: it shows that you don't have to dislike porn to support that idea. So what are we waiting for?

I think that would be a good idea if where to be done as a login setting rather than how the same is done over a moe.mouto as page setting for loli:e

See also my complaint under post #206665. Which actually got VOTED DOWN since I commented on it, argh!

While I didn't care for either of the post mentioned on post #206665, that's not a reason for them to be voted down either. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. For myself, I tend to look for and rate highly jukujo/milf postings. It also tends to be what I post for the most part.
