Doujin uploads

Posted under General

As I and Seem stated, there is very little point in uploading doujins unless each individual page has some merit. Chances are with most doujins that half of the pages would never be worth uploading on their own, so unless you can view each individual page and say "I'd upload this even if I didn't have the rest of the doujin", you shouldn't be uploading it.

Instead, the simple solution would be to post the cover and source it with a rapidshare of the complete work. That way, the people who want to read the whole doujin can do so without using up an entire results page of space. Once again, this doesn't apply to doujins in which every page works as a standalone piece.

This would also mean no more uploading of hard-translated doujins that already exist on the site, no matter how good the original is. It's extremely stupid to have two versions of a doujin uploaded here when the only difference is the language. Just put a link in a comment on the original for the translated version.

Honestly, there are dedicated sites out there that have simple and intuitive searching and browsing features for doujins, and danbooru isn't one of them.

That's my two cents.

I agree with roastbeefy, although I'm not addressing the hard translation stuff right now.

I think that it's still okay to upload ongoing serials, such as minami_(artist)'s Chibi Miku-san. But just dumping an existing self-contained doujin on the site? I have approved some, but not very many.

That said, as of this moment anyway, they're not against danbooru rules. But as roastbeefy notes, there are far better places for them.

I disagree with most of you in that I think uploading doujins should be allowed, mainly as a translation exercise. (I'll get around to translating the two doujinshi I uploaded someday!) Hard-translated doujinshi, though... please, no. Raws only. Pooling required (say, translated name in the title, original name in the description). Child any translated pages already on the site to their original raw page.

... is my stance.

Generally if I had a doujin I'd only upload the standalone art pages unless there was something particularily striking or amusing about a particular page from a story or if the story was only a few pages long and was also interesting in some way.

If I come across a page of thumbnails that are all greyscale doujin pages I often don't even bother opening them.

Same. They're equally unlikely to get my full attention in the mod queue as well.
