Frankly it's because the mobile layout sucks. It just hasn't had a whole lot of work put into it. The problem is that posts have tons of information - the tag list, the information/options/history sections, comments, notes, artist commentary, pending/flagged notices, parent/child headers, the pools header - that should be in the mobile layout somewhere, but there's just not a lot of room to cram all that stuff in.

Although I can't favorite images or search tags easily I do like the mobile layout. It is way, way easier to search up tags without having to zoom in like crazy. The one thing that bothered me is before the mobile layout was implemented I had a difficult time trying to favorite images. I would either click resize to screen, tap on the screen several times causing it too zoom in or just miss at all.

So why have the mobile layout then? It was not very well liked last time it was enabled and the desktop view works perfect for me while I'm on mobile. Just curious.

While the current mobile layout is mediocre, and forcing it is an odd choice regardless, I definitely wouldn't say the desktop view is at all perfect on mobile. There are a number of targets suitable for the single pixel precision of mice, or even better have simple keyboard shortcuts so you don't need to bother with mice at all, which become far more troublesome via touch only. Going forward and backwards through a pool/search for example on computer is a simple matter of using the keyboard without even needing to hit the next/prev at all, but in mobile, particularly if there are stacked items (a search part of multiple pools say) missed hits are a thing without a lot of zooming. Looking at how other image using sites handle mobile display I think improvements in viewing are certainly possible to imagine and I don't fault any of the devs for wanting to have a sandbox to play with that.

All that said the current mobile layout is not ready IMO even for default usage let alone a global forced swap with high barrier to change back. One of the strengths modern mobile brought to the table in the first place was the ability to just use the normal web, and that should always be an option.

I'd have to say that this used to be my favourite site until the mobile layout was forced on mobile browsers without the option of changing back. I just fail to see the purpose of the change, at least without cleaning it all up first and enabling such features as being able to favourite images.

I apologize for the rant, but at this moment, this seems like the most unnecessary change to a website I've seen in some time.

Guys, the problem is known. Give albert a chance to deal with it. I think this was just an unintended consequence, not a deliberate "let's force our new design on everyone" situation.

First world problem I guess, but I'm a bit sad the old tag subscriptions have been disabled. Despite having migrated all my old stuff to saved searches a while back, I still made a few separate subscription entries for tags I check a lot, so I can get there with a single click from my profile page.

Yeah sorry if I came across as a bit harsh, that wasn't my intention. If it was an accident I'm not gonna complain and just wait for a response/fix.

While I agree with most of the things you said as they are good points I was mostly talking about for what I use it for, which is to check for new forum posts and responses to my comments mostly. Trying to hit the right ? next to a tag and not being able to check the current progress in pools are the things that annoy me the most while on mobile.

I've never seen the mobile version actually work on a phone before.

It would be neat if there were a manual address to go to for accessing the mobile version, like m.donmai.us or something.

Or some Japanese pun involving delivering cardboard boxes or something.

On another note, I noticed that the font for tags and other stuff in the mobile version are bolded for some reason and are way bigger than text comments or forum posts.

Are people still having issues with the "mobile" version, which is not actually the mobile version, but the CSS properties for @media screen and (max-width: 660px). I don't know why, but something is making Danbooru think that the mobile screens have a pixel width of less than 660 pixels, which makes that CSS style go into effect. To see this in action on your desktop computer, take your browser window and shrink its width until the different settings goes into effect.

Regardless, I was able to get back to the "desktop" version of Danbooru on my Samsung Galaxy 6, Chrome browser, by selection the options in the upper right corner (three vertical dots), and then select "Request desktop site".

This didn't work for me earlier (using iOS 9), but now it does. It must've been added in the past few hours. Thank you to whoever implemented it!
