But aren't they the same person? I know is kinds spoilers but is something that everyone knows about
If they have distinct appearances and may involve spoilers, no. This was discussed in forum #112683 - otherwise we might as well tag all Pichu tags as Pikachu and Raichu, following your train of thought. It's like tagging any Batman posts with his alter ego - it makes the search harder to use if you're only looking for Bruce Wayne posts.
That is a bit off topic, but the Pichu/Pikachu/Raichu isn't quite the same since it's metamorphosis in the case of Pokémon.
It can be the same animal in the end, even though it's evolved into a new form. Just as a young Link can be Link, we shouldn't tag them as the same character just because one can be the other.

I don't see where this will lead, but Bruce Wayne is still Batman at the same time. Same with Shiek and Zelda. We only tag them differently, because of their distinct physical appearance. A Pikachu can not be a Raichu at the same time. It is growing up. Just like Young Link cannot be Adult Link at the same time. There is a 7 year difference between them :P. So..two seperate tags for those, too. But for two different reasons.
(Unless you count in time paradoxes, but that is losing focus :P).

In Batman canon, "Bruce Wayne" is considered a persona, a mask for the "real" Batman to wear in public. Another DC example is the mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent and the hero Superman. Same with Sheik. They're technically the same person, but due to wildly different appearances and personalities they might as well be different people.
Since the original question relating to the nintendo tag appears to have been resolved, should we treat the tags for other game studios and publishers the same way? Lately I've been seeing quite a few posts tagged riot games and blizzard (company) that don't directly reference either company. If our policy is to discourage this sort of tagging, it would be better to do something about it now than to let the situation get worse.

I would. Overwatch is how I'd be searching for Tracer pictures, not Blizzard or Activision. They're he publisher but they're not what immediately comes to mind when I see those characters without the trademark or corporate logo. Ditto any of the League of Legends heroes.

With that logic, I should tag Bruce Banner as Hulk even though he's not green and hyper muscular. It doesn't make sense to address one as the other, as that makes searches for bruce_banner -hulk completely fucking useless. They may be the same person, but they don't look the same. An individual Raichu was previously a Pikachu and a Pichu, but it doesn't look like it used to. The individual animal was once in those previous forms, separated by time and a thunder stone. With your and TomReidem's logic, the fact that they were the same character is the only thing that counts for tagging.
That completely flies in the face of how we tag on Danbooru - tag ONLY what you see. Sheik looks nothing like Zelda, or young Zelda. Ditto Bruce Wayne without the Batman outfit.
I wouldn't purge DC, regardless of your depth of knowledge of comic book characters it can be rather tricky to tie a specific character to a specific comic, since they all criss-cross around the dc universe. Same for marvel.
edit: for example Zatanna Zatara appears in The Atom #19, Hawkman #4, Green Lantern #42, Detective Comics #335 and 355 and Justice League of America #51, Justice League of America #161, and then they gave her a short series. How do you even pick a tag for that aside from "arbitrarily"
I dunno, I think people reverted some manually. Actually you know what, I'm not sure metatags work in mass updates, so I'll just review this and tag script it.
