Sus Tazuna aside, I'm not sure what putting your hands to your ears is supposed to do to scalded fingers. You'd think there's even a risk of tossing the liquid onto your face if you're not careful.

It probably does something, I just don't see how it can be an intuitive behavior.

    Earlobes are supposedly cooler than other parts of your body, and while I can't speak for the rest of the world, I've observed several Asian cultures doing this as a way to "cool down" your fingers after touching something scalding. Scientifically it's probably placebo, but my dad does this, and as a cook myself, I do that too sometimes instinctively.
