This was because the F-104G was modified as a fighter-bomber. Trying to use a rocket with wingstubs meant as interceptor as ground attack aircraft was begging for trouble. This and pilots inexperienced with this kind of aircraft earned the F-104G the reputation as widowmaker. Later on the Starfighter was well liked by its pilots.

I've gotten to the point where I just flat out block these artists who commit self-iconoclasm on their own work from my Twitter feed since I have no business humoring their attitude or work, and I say this as someone who isn't fond of AI art either!
