Swedish delta-winged interceptor, attack, and reconnaissance jet capable of operating from short stretches of roadway as well as airfields. It had large canards, a modified airliner turbofan, and special landing gear. Its armament included air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons as well as a built-in 30mm cannon. The Viggen entered service in 1972 and was retired in 2005, replaced by the newer Saab Gripen.
