persephone (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Persephone is the goddess of springs and wife of Hades, thus making her the queen of the underworld. Well-known for her love story with Hades, primarily due to the lack of debauchery elements that is common among other Greek myths.
In the original myth, Hades kidnapped her into the underworld. Unlike his younger brother, Hades did not violate Persephone and took a good care of her. When Persephone's mother Demeter learned of Hades' antics, she pleaded Hades to release her daughter to the surface due to the world being slowly frozen in her absence. Hades agreed, but not before Persephone ate a promaganate due to Hades' trickery, causing her to be bounded with the underworld and thus were able to stay outside for only six months. Creating a seasonal cycle in process.
