le mans prototype
ル・マン ルマン グループC LMP LMDh LMH DPi Cカー
A type of racecar, designed to be the top class of sports car racing. LMP cars are typically designed solely to compete in races, unlike other sports car classes that are based off road cars.
Currently, LMP2 is the only LMP class still used in the top level of racing, while LMP3 headlines lower series in the endurance racing ladder. The LMP1 class has since been replaced by Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) and Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) spec vehicles, which compete in both the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the World Endurance Championship. The former entry-level LMPC class was retired in 2017 amid growing costs to run.
While the term technically refers to the 4 LMP classes, for Danbooru purposes this tag represents all prototype-class race cars, including Group C, LMDh, LMH, Daytona Prototype (DP), and Daytona Prototype International (DPi).
