world endurance championship
A motorsport series sanctioned by FIA and founded in 2012 as a revival of the defunct World SportsCar Championship. As the name implies, the series is based around endurance racing, with events typically running between 6 to 8 hours.
The iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, hosted at Circuit de la Sarthe, has been a part of WEC's season since it's foundation.
WEC racecars currently include the Hypercar prototype class, consisting of LMH and LMDh spec vehicles, and GT3 sports cars. LMP2 prototypes previously competed in the series, but have been dropped from the full season, now only appearing at Le Mans. LMP1 prototypes and GTE sports cars were also previously included in WEC, but have been replaced by the current Hypercar and GT3 rulesets.
