keffiyeh
A traditional Middle Eastern square-shaped headdress which is generally worn on the head or around the neck like a scarf. Traditionally white with black or net-like red pattern.
There are many different terms to refer to it:
- keffiyeh or kufiya (Arabic: كوفية kūfiyyah, meaning "from the city of Kufa" (الكوفة); plural كوفيات kūfiyyāt)
- ghutrah (غُترَة)
- shemagh (شماغ)
- ḥaṭṭah (حَطّة)
- mashadah (مَشَدة)
- chafiye (Persian: چَفیِه)
- dastmal yazdi (Persian: دستمال یزدی)
- cemedanî (Kurdish: جه مه داني)
