canis major (constellation)
Canis Major (the Greater Dog) is a constellation located in the Southern celestial hemisphere. Its name, the Greater Dog, refers to and contrasts it with nearby Canis Minor, the Lesser Dog. Its brightest star is Sirius, part of the Winter Triangle and the brightest star in the sky other than the Sun.
Canis Major represents a stick figure of an animal with a long, slender body and a triangular head. It has somewhat similar features to Lupus, but can be distinguished by its "tail": Canis Major has it, while Lupus doesn't.
