artemis (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the wild, wild animals, the moon, and chastity. Daughter of Zeus and Leto, and twin sister of Apollo. Patron protector of young girls, and was worshipped as a goddess of childbirth. While she had sworn to never marry, as per her domain, she attracted the attention of many men. However, only the hunter Orion had won her heart, a love that would end with his death, either unknowingly by Artemis' hands or by the stinger of a scorpion.
