A vise (or vice in British English) is a mechanical apparatus used to physically secure an object in place, to allow work to be performed on it, without it moving in different positions or away from the person or machine that processing the work-piece into an useful or finished product. Vises have two parallel jaws, one fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out by a screw and lever.
