Second ship of the Portland class, served as Fifth Fleet Flagship during WWII. Delivered the nuclear bomb in 1945 to Tinian island, was sunk soon afterwards, having the unfortunate distinction of being the last major US war loss of WWII. Due to a number of miscommunication the survivors were left drifting in shark infested water for days before being rescued. Her captain was unfairly tried and found guilty of losing his ship, the guilt of which led to his suicide a decade later. Was finally exonerated when some high school kid did a research project on the whole event during the 90s.
