Battleship of the Bismarck class. Laid down in 1936, launched in 1939 (on April Fool's Day), commissioned in 1941, sunk in 1944. Played an important role as part of the "fleet in being" in Norway. Fitted with torpedo tubes in 1942 (taken from Leipzig/ex-Deutschland). Subjected to numerous attacks by both the RAF and the RN (including one by special midget submarines). Finally sunk by RAF Lancaster bombers.
