The Sukhoi Su-33 (Russian: Сухой Су-33; NATO reporting name: Flanker-D) is an all-weather carrier-based air defense fighter designed by Sukhoi and manufactured by KnAAPO.
A navalised derivative of the Su-27, it was initially known as the Su-27K. When the fighter entered service in August 1998, its designation was changed to "Su-33".
The Su-33 has strengthened structure, upgraded engines, a twin nose wheel, larger wing, and shortened tail stinger compared to the Su-27. It was replaced by the MiG-29K in 2009.
