Stepan is a male Ukrainian character belonging to the 67th Mechanized Brigade, a Right Sector-derivative unit.
He is often depicted with a jacket, baggy pants, boots, gloves, and a blue beanie. His weapon of choice is an AK-47.
He was originally created by Biswapriya Purkayastha, a pro-russian Indian cartoonist, in 2022 as a mockery of Ukrainian ultranationalists in the comic Tales of Ukranazistan at the outbreak of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. His original full name is "Ukranazi Stepan".
However, just as the character Marichka began to gain notoriety on 4chan's /pol/, a then-anonymous french artist, Number-Seventeen, began to draw Stepan as an aesthetically-appealing character to ship with her in a series of comics, while maintaining his rather-unbelievable backstory utterly unchanged.
Following LapisLumos' and Linyvets chan's contributions, Stepan was given short blonde hair and greater depth, with a unit and a backstory to fully diverge the character from the then-parody of the original.
