Refers to the tool used for spinning fibres into yarn by hand. Spindles may look like spools, but can be told apart by the presence of a hook or thin taper at one end, and how the yarn and presence of at most one disc along its length. They may be used to spin wool, flax, or cotton among other natural and synthetic fibers.
