Sicario (Spanish for Hitman), is a 2015 action film directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin.
The plot follows FBI agent Kate Macer(Blunt), who after her team raids a safehouse used by the Mexican Sonora Cartel and discovering the bodies of their victims inside, joins a US Government Joint Task Force composed of Delta Force operators, US Marshals and CIA agents, led by CIA agent Matt Graver(Brolin) and his mysterious assistant Alejandro Gillick(del Toro) to arrest the Cartel leaders for smuggling drugs from Mexico to the US. As the film progress, Kate realizes the Task Force might have a different end goal than they claim, becomes suspicious with Matt and Alejandro's motives and learns the harsh reality on the War on Drugs where the line between good and bad becomes blur.
The film was well received by critics for it's story, cinematography, acting and action scenes along with the movie's themes on the consequences of America's War on Drugs.
The movie was followed by a 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which follows the Joint Task Force led by Matt and Alejandro, as they start a gang war between the Drug Cartels after the US Government suspects the Cartel help smuggled Islamic Terrorists into the US.
