Wakaba is the most outwardly cheerful person in the series and is Utena's best friend, but she feels surrounded by "special" people and doesn't know how to become special herself. During the Black Rose Saga, it is revealed that she was harboring Saionji Kyouichi after his expulsion from school. When he returns due to his obsession with Himemiya Anthy, she feels betrayed and seeks Mikage. Taking revenge, she pulls Saionji's katana out of his body to duel Utena.
