Her base outfit is almost identical to Kasuga Maru's, wearing a white dougi top with a red hakama short skirt, only to differentiate by wearing a yellow undershirt and yellow socks as opposed to Kasuga Maru's black. On her left hand, she wears a thick falconry glove.
The historical Shin'you was originally the SS Scarnhorst, a German passenger liner. Scharnhorst was stuck in Japan when World War II broke out in Europe. The Imperial Japanese Navy converted her into an escort carrier based on the plans for the Taiyou-class carriers, much like Kasuga Maru's conversion. She was sunk in 1944 by torpedo attack from the submarine USS Spadefish.
