A historically recognized genus of floweringplants, native to Africa and southern Asia. Being a common house plant, it is well known as the snake plant.
The plant is recognizable for having straight, stiff and pointed foliage like the aloe, while some species has yellow trim on the leaves' edges. The flower takes shape of multiple spider lily-like blooms on a single stalk.
