Protagonist of the Art of Fighting series alongside Robert Garcia, and one of the main characters of The King of Fighters series. His nom de guerre is 無敵の龍 (Muteki no ryū) - the "Invincible Dragon".
He is the first child and son of Kyokugen-ryuu Karate founder Takuma Sakazaki. Yuri is his younger sister. Robert Garcia is a fellow practicioner of Kyokugen Karate and is Ryo's best friend and rival. Marco Rodrigues is his most famous disciple. King is teased as a love interest of his. He is credited as handing one of the earliest major losses to South Town's young crime lord Geese Howard.
His fighting style is the Tiger discipline of Kyokugen Karate. He is also the first native student to perform the series' most famous Haou Shoukou Ken and later became a teacher of such a move.
Ryo is credited as the first cross-over/guest character in fighting game history, appearing as a secret boss/playable character in Fatal Fury Special. Street Fighter's Dan Hibiki was created by Capcom to poke fun at him (and Robert) for bearing a bit too close of a resemblance to Ryu.
