The Radeon VII is a graphics card produced by AMD and was released in early 2019. It was the first GPU released by AMD produced using TSMC's 7nm process. Unlike the later 2019 released AMD RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT video cards that were based on the new RDNA microarchitecture, the Radeon VII was based on the older Graphics Core Next 5 microarchitecture. It featured 16gb of HBM2 memory, as opposed to the more conventional and cheaper GDDR6 memory. Reviews of the Radeon VII frequently made note that it had good performance, but that it performed weaker to Nvidia's equally priced RTX 2080, particularly in gaming. Reviews also considered the GPU to be power hungry and the cooling solution extremely loud under load.
While it was released in February of 2019, production of it was stopped entirely only 5 months later with the release of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 GPUs. It is believed that this was due to the high cost in manufacturing the Radeon VII, so instead of scaling down production with the release of the newer cards it was simpler to end production entirely.
