A platypus, also known as the duck-billed platypus, is a semi-aquatic animal native to Australia. They're carnivores that feed on a diet of insects and small crustaceans. Platypuses are one of the few mammals that lay eggs. They're also one of the few mammals that possess venom, with males possessing a spike on their hindleg that can deliver venom. Their venom is described as excruciatingly painful to humans, but it is not lethal.
