A mid-sized songbird with a distinctive crest on the head. Males are vibrant red with a black face-mask which covers the base of the beak and eyes to the upper throat. (Females are reddish-olive with a grey mask.) The beak is red.
Cardinals are native to North America, where they can be found in the Eastern U.S. through Canada and parts of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
