A neck violin, also called a shrew's fiddle is a restraint similar to a pillory, stocks, or yoke. It is normally composed of two pieces of wood hinged together. There are holes in the boards such that when it is closed it will wrap around the neck with an opening at the front to restrain the wrists.
Some variations of this restraint were used to restrain two people and have them locked facing each other.
