Monogatari (物語 Monogatari, lit. "Story") is the general name for a series of Japanese light novels written by Japanese novelist Nisio Isin and illustrated by Taiwanese illustrator Vofan. The series is published by Kodansha under their Kodansha Box imprint since November 2006. An anime adaptation by Shaft of Bakemonogatari aired 12 episodes between July and September 2009, and released three more episodes online between November 2009 and June 2010. An anime of the sequel Nisemonogatari aired from January to March 2012. An anime of Nekomonogatari (Kuro) aired on December 31, 2012. Anime film Kizumonogatari is composed of three parts as separate films. The first film premiered in theaters on January 8, 2016 in Japan. The second film premiered in Japan on August 19, 2016 in Japan. The final film premiered on January 6, 2017 in Japan. An anime titled Monogatari Series Second Season aired from July 6 to December 28, 2013 and on August 16, 2014. An anime titled Monogatari Series Final Season aired on December 31, 2014, from October 2015 to March 2016, in the third quarter of 2017, and on November 10, 2018. An anime titled Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season premiered July 6, 2024.
The story centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who survived a vampire attack, and finds himself helping some girls involved with all kinds of apparitions, gods, ghosts, mythological beasts, and spirits.
